The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially confirmed the dates for its 99th and 100th annual Academy Awards galas. These pivotal events, slated for March 2027 and March 2028, will signify the conclusion of the long-standing broadcast partnership with ABC before the ceremonies transition to YouTube. Furthermore, a notable shift in venue is projected for 2029, as the Oscars will relocate from the Dolby Theatre to the Peacock Theater, where they are scheduled to remain for a decade.

The 99th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2027, with the centennial 100th ceremony following on Sunday, March 5, 2028. Both events are scheduled for a live broadcast at 7 p.m. ET, reaching audiences globally through ABC and its international partners from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. This announcement comes on the heels of the Academy’s recent disclosure regarding the move to the Peacock Theater, a change set to commence with the 2029 awards and continue through 2039.

Adding to the dynamic landscape of live televised events, ABC’s early 2027 schedule is particularly packed. The network will host the Grammy Awards on February 7, a broadcast that will also be available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+ as part of a new decade-long agreement, concluding a 54-year association with CBS. Moreover, ABC is set to televise Super Bowl LXI on February 14, marking its return to broadcasting the NFL championship game after an absence since 2006.

The most recent Academy Awards telecast, which recognized Paul Thomas Anderson’s "One Battle After Another" with the best picture honor, attracted a viewership of 17.86 million across ABC and Hulu. This figure represented a 9% decrease from the previous year’s 19.7 million viewers, which had been the highest in five years for the ceremony. The upcoming 2026 film season already shows considerable promise, featuring commercially successful movies like Ryan Gosling’s space-themed dramedy "Project Hail Mary" and highly anticipated releases such as Denis Villeneuve’s "Dune: Part Three," starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s "Digger," featuring Tom Cruise.

The Academy has also released a detailed calendar for the crucial dates of the 2026-2027 Oscar season. The eligibility period for submissions will commence on January 1, 2026, with a final deadline for various categories, including general entries, animated feature film, best picture, and the RAISE form, on November 12, 2026. The Governors Awards are scheduled for November 15, 2026. Preliminary voting will run from December 7 to December 11, 2026, leading to the announcement of the Oscars shortlists on December 15, 2026. The eligibility period will conclude on December 31, 2026. Nominations voting will occur between January 11 and January 15, 2027, with the official Oscars nominations announced on January 21, 2027. A luncheon for nominees is planned for February 16, 2027. Final voting will take place from February 25 to March 4, 2027. As previously mentioned, the 99th Oscars will be on March 14, 2027, followed by the 100th Oscars on March 5, 2028. As of now, no hosts have been announced for either of the forthcoming ceremonies.

The Academy has meticulously planned the upcoming Oscar ceremonies for 2027 and 2028, designating precise March dates for these prestigious events. This strategic scheduling provides clarity for the film industry and audiences alike, highlighting the continuity and evolution of one of cinema's most celebrated nights.
