Dekanalog Acquires US Rights for Award-Winning Film 'Nina Roza'

Oscar-winning filmmaker and author whose work and commentary explore fantasy, horror, and cinema.

Dekanalog, an independent film distributor based in New York, has successfully acquired the exclusive U.S. rights for 'Nina Roza,' a critically acclaimed film that serves as Canada's official submission for the Academy Awards. This cinematic work, helmed by director Geneviève Dulude-De Celles, previously garnered the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at this year's Berlin Film Festival. Its journey to recognition also included screenings as a work-in-progress at the 78th Locarno Film Festival in 2025, where it was honored with both the Urban Post First Look Award and the Jannuzzi Smith Award.

'Nina Roza' tells a compelling narrative centered on Mihail, a prominent art collector. The story unfolds when a captivating viral video featuring an 8-year-old Bulgarian artist captures his attention. Mihail, three decades after his departure from his native Bulgaria, returns to assess the young artist's work, a journey that compels him to confront unresolved aspects of his personal history. The film sensitively explores the profound impact of immigration on an individual's sense of self.

Dekanalog intends to bring 'Nina Roza' to theaters across the U.S. in early 2027, with subsequent releases planned for video-on-demand and Blu-ray platforms. In a significant move, the company has also secured the U.S. rights for Dulude-De Celles' 2018 feature, 'A Colony,' which they also plan to release next year. Dekanalog's partner, Sam Wunderl, expressed immense pride in introducing Dulude-De Celles' thought-provoking work to American audiences, emphasizing the film's brilliant exploration of how immigration subtly yet deeply shapes one's identity. Dulude-De Celles herself shared her excitement, hoping the film will encourage empathetic discussions about heritage, identity, and the long-term consequences of leaving one's homeland.

This acquisition highlights the power of cinema to transcend borders and foster understanding. 'Nina Roza' offers a timely and poignant reflection on the human experience of migration and self-discovery, reinforcing the idea that art can be a powerful catalyst for empathy and dialogue in our increasingly interconnected world.
