This year's WIF Honors ceremony stands as a beacon, celebrating the profound impact and diverse contributions of women across the film industry. From seasoned executives steering major studios to emerging talents reshaping narratives, the honorees—Pamela Abdy, Adria Arjona, Beth de Araújo, Gemma Chan, and Salma Hayek Pinault—embody the organization's mission to champion gender equality and acknowledge exceptional achievements. The event not only applauds individual successes but also serves as a critical fundraiser for WIF's ongoing advocacy, research, and career development programs, reinforcing its dedication to fostering a more inclusive and equitable cinematic landscape.

Celebration of Cinematic Excellence: WIF Honors Illuminates Trailblazers and Rising Stars

On Thursday, November 5, the illustrious Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills will play host to the annual WIF Honors, a prestigious gala dedicated to recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of women in film. This year's ceremony shines a spotlight on a distinguished group of honorees, each making significant strides in their respective fields.

Pamela Abdy, the influential co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, is slated to receive the inaugural Vanguard Award. This esteemed recognition acknowledges Abdy's extensive and impactful career, particularly her transformative leadership at Warner Bros. Under her guidance, the studio has achieved remarkable success, overseeing acclaimed blockbusters and award-winning productions such as “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “Barbie,” “Weapons,” and “Dune: Part Two.” Her tenure culminated in an unprecedented triumph last year, with Warner Bros. matching an all-time studio record of 11 Academy Awards from an industry-leading 30 nominations. Nancy Meyers, the celebrated filmmaker, will present this award, marking a notable moment as Abdy's studio backed Meyers' first film in over a decade—a star-studded comedy featuring Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, Emma Mackey, and Owen Wilson, set for a Christmas Day 2027 release.

Filmmaker Beth de Araújo and actress Gemma Chan will jointly receive the Crystal Award for Advocacy in Film, celebrating their collaborative work on the compelling drama “Josephine.” This harrowing film, which portrays a young girl witnessing a devastating crime, earned both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. “Josephine” is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on November 20, followed by a nationwide expansion on December 4. This award represents a significant full-circle moment for both women: de Araújo participated in WIF’s financing intensive in 2018, and Chan was named the WIF Max Mara Face of the Future honoree in 2020, highlighting their enduring connection to the organization.

Adria Arjona, a rapidly ascending talent, will be honored with this year’s Face of the Future prize. Arjona's recent performances have propelled her into the spotlight, notably her compelling role in the Peabody-winning series “Andor,” and her dual role as executive producer and star of “Los Frikis” and “Splitsville.” She recently captivated audiences in the A24 action thriller “Onslaught” and is set to star alongside Michael B. Jordan in the reimagined “The Thomas Crown Affair” for Amazon MGM.

Finally, the venerable Jane Fonda will present the Humanitarian Award—an honor named after its inaugural recipient, Fonda herself—to the Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Salma Hayek Pinault. Fonda and WIF selected Hayek Pinault to acknowledge her extraordinary career spanning film and television, as well as her unwavering dedication to advocating for the rights of women, children, and immigrants.

Kirsten Schaffer, CEO of WIF, remarked on the selection of honorees, stating, “The 2026 honorees exemplify what WIF stands for: visionary work, fierce community, and lifting up the next generation. At a time when our Reframe research reveals a sobering backslide for women and nonbinary people in this industry, it is vital to celebrate leaders committed to transformation. Pamela Abdy, Beth de Araújo, Adria Arjona, Gemma Chan, and Salma Hayek bring indelible stories to the screen, while actively building a more inclusive culture.”

Victoria Alonso and Andrea Nelson Meigs, co-chairs of this year’s WIF Honors, echoed this sentiment: “We are proud of this slate of honorees, especially Pam Abdy, whose fearless advocacy for storytellers has helped shape the films that define our industry. We’re equally proud to honor Adria, Salma, Gemma, and Beth, women of color in an industry where they remain underrepresented both on and off screen. All of these women deserve recognition, and we can’t wait to celebrate them this November.” The organizing committee also includes Syrinthia Studer, president of WIF’s board of directors, and board members Tara Duncan, Ivette Rodriguez, Rachel Rusch, and Jurnee Smollett.

The WIF Honors ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of recognizing and celebrating the women who continue to shape and enrich the film industry. Their collective achievements not only inspire future generations but also underscore the ongoing need for advocacy and change to create a truly equitable and diverse cinematic landscape. The dedication of these women, both in front of and behind the camera, demonstrates that their contributions are indispensable to the art and business of storytelling. This event is a testament to their visionary work and commitment to a more inclusive future for all.
