Gina Rodriguez is embarking on her inaugural feature film as a director, a boxing drama titled 'House of Guerrero.' This significant production has recently unveiled its leading ensemble, which includes Carlos Sanson Jr., known for his work in 'Bump,' Rosario Dawson from 'Ahsoka,' and George Lopez of 'Lopez vs. Lopez.' Rodriguez herself will not only helm the project but also take on a starring role and serve as a producer. Filming for 'House of Guerrero' is already underway, with locations spanning Los Angeles and California’s Imperial Valley, bringing to life a narrative crafted by Bernardo Cubría.

The film 'House of Guerrero' marks a notable reunion for Gina Rodriguez and Justin Baldoni, who previously shared the screen as romantic leads Rafael Solano and Jane Villanueva in the beloved ABC series 'Jane the Virgin.' Baldoni is involved in this project as a producer, representing Wayfarer Studios. This venture is particularly significant as it's the first major announcement from Baldoni following the resolution of his legal dispute with Blake Lively, which originated during their collaboration on the 2024 film 'It Ends With Us.'

Inspired by an original concept developed by Rodriguez and Cubría, the narrative of 'House of Guerrero' centers on a boxer who, having once shown great promise, endeavors to make a comeback to the ring and reclaim the aspirations he once held. The demanding fight sequences are being orchestrated by acclaimed fight choreographers Clayton J. Barber, celebrated for his work on 'Creed III,' and Eric Brown, recognized for 'John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.'

In a testament to the enthusiasm surrounding the project, Baldoni recently shared a video on Instagram capturing a warm embrace with Rodriguez on the initial day of pre-production for 'House of Guerrero,' accompanied by an uplifting caption. Andrew Calof, President of Production and Development at Wayfarer Studios and a producer for the film, lauded the exceptional talent gathered for 'House of Guerrero,' noting the immediate presence of humor, affection, and profound emotion during the early stages of filming. Calof expressed confidence that the film would deeply resonate with audiences, attributing its potential success to Rodriguez's remarkable directorial vision and innate storytelling prowess. Similarly, producer Scott Budnick emphasized the importance of authentically portraying the significant influence of Latino culture on boxing, a commitment evident in the casting choices.

The production team also includes executive producers Steve Sarowitz and Jamey Heath from Wayfarer, along with Sherrese Clarke and Niija Kuykendall representing HarbourView Media Group, joined by Clare LoCicero and Alice S. Kim. UTA Independent Film Group is managing global sales for the film. The cast members are represented by prominent agencies: Sanson by M88 and United Management, Dawson by CAA and Untitled, Lopez by UTA and 3Arts Management, and Rodriguez by WME.

The ensemble cast, featuring Carlos Sanson Jr., Rosario Dawson, and George Lopez, underscores the film's commitment to rich character development and dynamic performances. With the guidance of fight choreographers Clayton J. Barber and Eric Brown, the boxing scenes are expected to deliver a compelling and realistic portrayal of the sport. The synergy between director Gina Rodriguez and producer Justin Baldoni, rekindling their successful collaboration, highlights a promising creative partnership. As production progresses, the team anticipates further exciting casting announcements, aiming to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of Latino boxers and captivates audiences worldwide.
