However, this is set to change, as an official version compatible with the Linux operating system is now reportedly in development, although a specific release date remains unconfirmed.

According to GamingOnLinux, an interview with joint-CEO Krzysztof Papliński confirmed this long-awaited initiative. Papliński acknowledged the community's persistent demand, stating, "Linux continues to be one of the topics we hear the most about from our community, and we really appreciate the passion and patience of everyone who’s been asking about it." He further elaborated, "Following the role we announced earlier this year, we now have the specialist on board and are actively exploring the best way to approach Linux support for GOG Galaxy. This is a significant undertaking, so while we’re not ready to share any specific plans, timelines, or results just yet, it’s very much an area we’re investing time and effort into. We’re excited about the possibilities and will be happy to share more when the time is right!" Currently, Linux users can access GOG games through alternative launchers like the Heroic Games Launcher, which also supports non-GOG titles and offers features such as playtime tracking and achievement management, similar to what GOG Galaxy provides. The official GOG Galaxy client for Linux is expected to offer a more integrated experience, including centralized friends lists across various platforms like Steam and Epic Games.

Despite the positive news regarding Linux support, GOG's future plans also involve exploring and promoting AI-assisted development tools. While this could enhance efficiency and code quality, it introduces a note of caution for some in the community.
