Locating the Ruined Homestead in Arc Raiders for Outpost Construction

In the expansive universe of Arc Raiders, a critical initial task for players aiming to erect their personal outpost is to document a specific structure: a farm building situated close to the Ruined Homestead within the Blue Gate region. This objective is part of the game's broader "Sheltered Retreat" project, which guides players through the process of establishing and fortifying their bases.

The Ruined Homestead is located in the southern part of the Blue Gate area, adjacent to the Olive Grove—a site previously noted for its contested resources like lemons and olives, vital for the character Scrappy. However, before players can proceed with this photographic assignment, they must acquire a camera. Unlike earlier iterations of the game where simply interacting with a structure sufficed, current gameplay mandates the possession of a physical camera item. This item is considered uncommon and can be obtained through various means:

  • Players can purchase a camera from Shani for a sum of 1,900 in-game currency.
  • Alternatively, a camera can be crafted at a basic workbench using eight plastic parts and one wire.
  • Certain quests, such as the recently introduced "Sizing Things Up," also reward players with a camera upon acceptance, providing another avenue for acquisition.

It is important to note that the requirement for a camera item means that players can no longer utilize free loadouts to complete photo-related quests. It is advisable to keep the camera safely stored in a secure pocket until it is needed for specific tasks. Once the camera is in possession and the player arrives at the Ruined Homestead, they should equip the camera, use the right mouse button to aim, and then the left mouse button to capture the photograph. Any of the main farm buildings within the designated area will fulfill the quest requirement, making this stage of the outpost construction straightforward to complete.

The introduction of the camera as a necessary tool adds a layer of realism and strategic planning to the game, as players must now actively seek out or craft this item before undertaking reconnaissance missions. This change encourages a more immersive experience, where preparation and resource management are key to advancing through the game's objectives. The location of the Ruined Homestead near the Olive Grove serves as a familiar landmark for veteran players, while new players can easily navigate to it using the in-game map. Successfully capturing the image not only fulfills a quest objective but also marks progress in the larger goal of establishing a fortified outpost, crucial for survival and expansion in Arc Raiders.
