In the expansive world of The Blood of Dawnwalker, the intricate court system serves as a pivotal mechanic, deeply intertwined with your character's journey and overall advancement. While traditional questlines offer avenues for forging alliances and acquiring superior gear, the court system presents a distinct path to undermine Brencis' authority, disrupt his loyal boyars, and amplify Coen's standing among the rebel factions. This pursuit of infamy, though laden with potential perils, unlocks novel strategies for confronting Brencis and shapes the unfolding narrative.

Navigating the Path to Infamy and Vassal Discontent

Within The Blood of Dawnwalker, your progression is intrinsically linked to the dynamics of the court. Following the introductory sequence, a dedicated 'Court' tab becomes accessible in the primary menu, positioned alongside the map interface. Here, players can monitor their current notoriety status and observe the escalating discontent among Brencis' key lieutenants: Ambrus, Xanthe, and Bakir.

To provoke a vassal's ire, players must undertake strategic sabotage operations. These missions are visually represented by small diamond icons connected to each vassal's portrait within the court menu. Initially, these opportunities may appear as enigmatic question marks, signaling undiscovered objectives. However, as you delve deeper into the game world, engaging in exploration and completing various quests will naturally unveil a multitude of sabotage possibilities.

Upon reaching the maximum threshold of a vassal's anger, a unique questline pertaining to that individual will be unlocked, providing deeper insights into their background and motivations. Crucially, prematurely eliminating a vassal before their anger level peaks will result in the forfeiture of this narrative-rich quest. Therefore, encountering Brencis' cronies in the early stages of the game may warrant a strategic decision to spare them temporarily, allowing for the full exploration of their associated storylines. It is worth noting that a brief delay may occur between maxing a vassal's anger and the commencement of their quest; rest assured, the enraged Vrakhir will eventually initiate contact with Coen.

The Mechanics of Infamy in The Blood of Dawnwalker

The act of agitating Brencis' vassals directly contributes to Coen's rising infamy. As Coen ascends through different infamy tiers, Brencis will retaliate by imposing various edicts designed to impede your progress. These countermeasures can range from heightened patrols in settlements to the establishment of military checkpoints throughout the valley. Consequently, achieving a high level of infamy too early in the game may prove disadvantageous, suggesting a more measured approach where conventional quests are interspersed with sabotage missions.

Nonetheless, attaining the 'notorious' infamy level opens the gateway to joining the Manumits, the burgeoning anti-Vrakhir resistance movement. While this alliance will undoubtedly intensify Brencis' aggression towards you, it simultaneously equips you with new and potent avenues for opposition.

Strategic Utilization of the Court System

As you delve into the complexities of The Blood of Dawnwalker's court system, consider these strategic pointers:

  • Certain 'regular' quests can also influence anger levels and infamy, especially if their outcomes impact Brencis or his vassals. However, direct sabotage remains the swifter method.
  • Completing every single sabotage mission is not a prerequisite to trigger a court member's maximum anger and subsequent quest. Varying your mission types, such as targeting a leech collector camp, intercepting a blood transport, or clearing a blood cellar, can offer a more engaging experience than repetitive tasks.
  • Prioritize one court member at a time if your goal is to swiftly initiate their personal quest. While simultaneously undermining Ambrus, Xanthe, and Bakir is an option, focusing your efforts on a single Vrakhir will yield quicker results for their individual storyline.
  • Ambrus's regions, such as Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds, are typically less perilous, making his sabotage missions comparatively easier to undertake.
  • Remember, disrupting Brencis' vassals is entirely optional. While inciting their anger leads to additional quests, defeating them will provoke Brencis, making the game more challenging. Weigh these trade-offs carefully based on your preferred playstyle.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven RPG where your decisions carry significant weight. For newcomers, consulting a beginner's guide and exploring recommended quests before the mass is advisable. Post-prologue, players are granted the freedom to explore Vale Sangora and confront Brencis' boyars at their discretion. To aid in navigating this expansive freedom, consider focusing on key activities and skill development after completing the prologue.
