NYU's prestigious Purple List, a program recognizing exceptional screenplays from its Tisch School of the Arts' emerging and established talents, has officially unveiled its highly anticipated 2026 selections. This initiative, drawing inspiration from the renowned Black List, meticulously identifies unproduced screenplays with strong commercial and artistic potential through a rigorous, blind review process conducted by respected figures in the film industry.

This year's curated collection highlights five distinctive narratives, each offering a unique glimpse into the future of storytelling. Among the chosen works are Vincent Lee Accettola's 'Kobayashi,' a compelling sports biopic with comedic undertones; Aisha Ford's 'Little Rhonda,' a poignant coming-of-age family drama; Mira Peng's 'Lychee Girl,' an imaginative sci-fi tale set in 1990s rural China; Taylor Sanghyun Lee's 'Rounds,' a drama exploring themes of forgiveness and community in the aftermath of tragedy; and Juan Pablo Daranas Molina's 'The Other Family,' a gripping thriller set against the backdrop of crisis-stricken Cuba. These diverse stories exemplify the creative breadth and depth nurtured within the Tisch School of the Arts program.

Over its 15-year history, the Purple List has served as a vital launchpad for numerous accomplished filmmakers. Past honorees include award-winning directors and writers such as Chloé Zhao, Shaka King, Cathy Yan, Desiree Akhavan, and Laurel Parmet, many of whom have seen their Purple List-featured projects evolve into critically acclaimed feature films. The consistent success of these alumni underscores the program's effectiveness in fostering new voices and bringing their cinematic visions to fruition, with nineteen scripts from previous editions having already been developed into completed movies.

The selection process for the Purple List is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the film industry, involving a panel of esteemed producers, writers, directors, cinematographers, sound editors, and representatives from leading entertainment organizations. This rigorous vetting ensures that only the most compelling and production-ready screenplays are chosen, reflecting the industry's commitment to discovering and supporting innovative storytelling. The program not only spotlights emerging talent but also reinforces the importance of diverse narratives in shaping the future of cinema. By championing these stories, the Purple List continues to contribute to a vibrant and evolving landscape of film, inspiring audiences and creators alike.
