After the Writers Guild secured an unexpected agreement with studios and streamers, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has confirmed its return to the bargaining table later this month.

The union representing performers and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) released a joint statement on Monday, declaring that negotiations would recommence on April 27. This decision follows a halt in previous discussions on March 15, where the parties failed to reach a consensus. The swift resolution of the Writers Guild's deal, concluded within three weeks of its negotiation period, paved the way for SAG-AFTRA to reschedule its talks sooner than initially anticipated. Sources indicated that the performers' union and the AMPTP had previously aimed for an early June return.

This upcoming negotiation period offers a two-week window before management begins discussions with the Directors Guild of America on May 11. SAG-AFTRA's current three-year contract is slated to conclude on June 30. During the initial rounds of contract negotiations, which began on February 9, union leaders emphasized key priorities, including enhanced protections against generative artificial intelligence in creative work, increased member compensation, and revisions to the casting process.
