Prolific television creator ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal") and author on creativity and empowerment.

Former Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich will be consulting for FilmNation Entertainment's genre film production arm, Infrared, bringing his extensive industry experience to their burgeoning slate of projects.

A New Chapter for Genre Film Development

Emmerich's Role with FilmNation's Infrared Label

FilmNation Entertainment has enlisted Toby Emmerich, the former head of Warner Bros. Motion Picture, to serve as a consultant for its specialized production division, Infrared. This label is dedicated to cultivating genre films that possess the inherent potential for multi-part series and broad audience appeal. Emmerich's responsibilities will encompass guiding the conceptualization and realization phases of these ambitious cinematic endeavors.

Infrared's Project Pipeline and Emmerich's Impact

The Infrared label is actively developing several promising projects. Among them are Derek Kolstad's "Painter," featuring Amber Midthunder and Walton Goggins, which is slated for 20th Century Studios, and JT Mollner's "Skeletons," starring Brie Larson for Sony Pictures. The division has previously released the action-comedy "Novocaine," starring Jack Quaid. FilmNation's CEO, Glen Basner, expressed strong confidence in Emmerich's "exceptional creative instincts" and his proven ability to transform innovative concepts into significant commercial successes, anticipating that his contribution will propel Infrared to unprecedented achievements within the independent genre film landscape.

Collaborative Success and Future Prospects

Emmerich's collaboration with FilmNation is not new, as they recently partnered on Peter Farrelly’s "I Play Rocky." This film, which premiered at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival and stars Anthony Ippolito as a young Sylvester Stallone, saw Emmerich’s Fireside Films co-produce, with FilmNation managing production services and international sales. Emmerich highlighted his positive experience working with FilmNation on "I Play Rocky," praising their entrepreneurial drive and dedication to producing impactful independent cinema. He conveyed eagerness to contribute his insights to Glen Basner and the Infrared team.

Continued Leadership in Film and Television

Concurrently with his new advisory position, Emmerich will maintain his leadership roles at Fireside Films and Fireside Television, where he works alongside Michele Weiss and Amanda Krentzman. This arrangement ensures his continued influence across various facets of the entertainment industry while he dedicates his expertise to FilmNation's genre aspirations.
