Unlocking Transmogrification in The Witcher 3: Remastered

The recent update to The Witcher 3 introduces a highly anticipated feature: the ability to customize the visual appearance of your equipment. Players can now alter the aesthetics of their armor and swords without affecting their stats, a process known as transmogrification. This visual customization is facilitated by specific master craftsmen within the game world, but requires completing their individual quests to unlock the service. It's important to note that this functionality is limited to these specialized artisans and incurs a minor fee for each alteration.

To begin transforming your gear, you must first seek out two renowned master smiths: Yoana at Crow's Perch and Éibhear Hattori in Novigrad. These skilled artisans are the sole providers of transmogrification services for armor and swords, respectively. However, their services are not immediately available; you must first prove your worth by assisting them with their unique quests.

For armor transmogrification, approach Fergus Graem, the dwarf armorer located in Crow's Perch. Inquire about mastercrafted armor, and Yoana will then task you with a journey to Undvik in Skellige to retrieve essential blacksmithing tools. Upon successful completion of this endeavor, Yoana will become available to modify your armor's appearance.

Similarly, for sword transmogrification, visit Éibhear Hattori's shop in Novigrad, situated northwest of Glory Gate. Initiating his quest, "Of Swords and Dumplings," will allow you to unlock his capabilities as a swordsmith and, subsequently, his transmogrification services.

Once both Yoana and Hattori have been recruited and their respective quests fulfilled, simply navigate to the "reforge" tab within their crafting or purchasing interfaces. From there, you can select the desired visual style for your equipped armor or swords. Each cosmetic change will typically cost between 100 and 200 coin.

A few additional details are crucial for players engaging with this new system. Firstly, any dyes applied to your transmogrified armor will retain the original base armor's color. Secondly, new sword and armor skins are unlocked for transmogrification only when the items are placed within Geralt's personal inventory. A notable limitation currently exists where previously acquired equipment may not automatically register as available skins; players might need to re-obtain these items or transfer them from their stash to Geralt's inventory to enable their visual customization. It is hoped that future updates will address this inconvenience, potentially allowing for retrospective unlocking of all past gear appearances. Additionally, master smiths such as Lazare Lafargue, despite his expertise in crafting grandmaster witcher gear in the Blood and Wine DLC, currently do not offer transmogrification services for armor, a point many players hope will be rectified in future patches.

To summarize, the newly introduced transmogrification feature in The Witcher 3 offers a welcome layer of personalization. By engaging with key master smiths and completing their introductory quests, players can visually alter their gear for a small fee, ensuring Geralt always looks his best while hunting monsters and navigating the treacherous world. While some minor improvements regarding gear recognition are anticipated, the core functionality provides a fresh way to experience the acclaimed RPG.
