Malkovich and Rockwell Shine at 'Wild Horse Nine' London Premiere

Oscar-winning filmmaker and author whose work and commentary explore fantasy, horror, and cinema.

John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell captivated attendees at the British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival for the premiere of their latest movie, 'Wild Horse Nine.' The acclaimed actors engaged with the audience at the Royal Festival Hall, generating excitement for the new feature. Although they kept red carpet interviews brief, their presence clearly energized the event.

During a post-screening discussion, Rockwell lightened the mood with a humorous remark about director Martin McDonagh’s charm and talent. Malkovich, sporting a casual beanie, offered a more understated but appreciative comment on the script's quality, which drew him to the project. Malkovich's performance has already garnered significant Oscar speculation, having previously earned him the prestigious Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival. McDonagh, the British-born Irish filmmaker, expressed confidence that the film's distinctive dark humor would particularly appeal to a British audience, noting the local connection before sharing a moment with partner Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

'Wild Horse Nine' features Malkovich and Rockwell as Chris and Lee, two veteran CIA operatives stationed in Santiago, Chile. Their assignment takes them to the enigmatic Easter Island, where they are tasked by their superior, MJ, played by Steve Buscemi. Against the stunning backdrop of the ancient Moai statues, the partners are forced to confront their complicated shared history. A significant turning point arises when Chris develops an unexpected connection with two defiant Chilean students, portrayed by Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas. This encounter not only threatens to dismantle the agents' long-standing bond but also risks exposing a deeply buried conspiracy.

The director Martin McDonagh’s cinematic vision, combined with a compelling narrative and stellar ensemble, promises a memorable experience for audiences worldwide. Buscemi praised the script's depth and the collaborative spirit of the cast, highlighting how the well-crafted material and the chemistry among actors enriched his portrayal of a high-pressure CIA boss. He anticipates that the film's quality will resonate broadly, particularly with the London crowd. The festival's 70th edition is showcasing a diverse array of films, including 'Artificial,' 'Bunker,' and 'Behemoth!,' ensuring a vibrant celebration of global cinema.
