Focus Features has unveiled the highly anticipated trailer for Robert Eggers' latest cinematic endeavor, "Werwulf," offering a chilling glimpse into a medieval horror narrative. The film promises a dark, gothic atmosphere, a signature style of director Eggers, known for his distinctive storytelling in films like "The Witch" and "The Lighthouse."

“Werwulf” Trailer Hints at Monstrous Horror in 13th-Century England

On September 26, 2026, Focus Features released the enthralling trailer for "Werwulf," igniting excitement among fans of visionary director Robert Eggers. The film, set in the desolate landscapes of 13th-century England, features Aaron Taylor-Johnson in a pivotal role as a man undergoing a terrifying transformation into a monstrous entity. His wife, portrayed by Lily-Rose Depp, desperately seeks a cure for his affliction, pleading for a way to save him from his cursed fate. Meanwhile, the formidable Willem Dafoe takes on the role of a knight, dedicated to eradicating the wolf menace from the countryside, dramatically declaring, "Every wolf shall die!"

This film marks a reunion for Taylor-Johnson, Depp, and Dafoe, who previously collaborated with Eggers on his vampire-centric "Nosferatu," which garnered four Oscar nominations and a global box office of $180 million in 2024. The first preview of "Werwulf" was showcased at Universal's CinemaCon presentation in April, where it was teased as Eggers' most terrifying work to date. Eggers co-wrote the script with Sjón, continuing their successful partnership from "The Northman" (2022).

The production team includes Eggers, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Garrett Bird, and Sjón as producers, with Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, and Bernard Bellew serving as executive producers. "Werwulf" is scheduled to premiere on Christmas Day, promising a haunting holiday experience for audiences.

Robert Eggers consistently delivers a unique blend of historical accuracy, psychological depth, and supernatural horror. "Werwulf" appears to uphold this tradition, delving into the primal fears and superstitions of the past. The trailer alone evokes a sense of dread and anticipation, suggesting a film that will not only terrify but also provoke thought about humanity's darker impulses and the curses that bind us. The collaborative return of such a talented cast and crew under Eggers' direction is a testament to the compelling vision he brings to the screen, making this an eagerly awaited cinematic event.
